One had to sit in the dugout to appreciate what Pat Mooney meant to them. "Moon Dog", was a coach-on-the-field. He was the ultimate take-charge guy. Whenever any ground ball was hit, he was yelling: "head down, head down." Whenever there was a bouncer back to the pitcher, he was first to remind the pitcher to step and throw, step and throw."

Mooney was a master at third base, fielding .955 with only six errors in 132 chances. In 1989, the first Broncos team to win the NBC World Series, he fielded .924 with 11 errors in 144 chances.

For the two seasons, he batted .290 with a slugging percentage of .494. He hit 24 doubles, 3 triples, 18 home runs and 91 RBI's. he had a nifty .437 on-base average.

Mooney batted .298 in his first season (1988) with 43 RBI's and an on-base percentage of .363. His 11 home runs were second on the team to Scott Bryant, who holds the franchise record for best average of .426. Bryant had 4 home runs, Mooney had 10 doubles.
